Understanding the IEP Toolkit for Parents
This toolkit is designed for parents/guardians and families of students with disabilities enrolled in District of Columbia Public Schools who have an Individualized Education Program or IEP that guides their educational programming. This toolkit provides a high-level overview of definitions, key terms, and processes families should be aware of, based on what is required by our nation's special education law—the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA.
The toolkit is divided into three sections:

1. Guiding Principles in Special Education
2. An Overview of the IEP and its Required Parts
3. An Understanding of the IEP Team
