Où sont fournis les services d'éducation spéciale?

Where are special education services provided?

DCPS educates students with IEPs in their least restrictive environment (LRE) at their in-boundary school, if appropriate. A student’s LRE is based on their needs. Most DCPS students with IEPs can be served in a general education classroom, a resource room, or a self-contained classroom. Separate day schools and residential schools educate students with greater needs.

Where Students Learn

Most students with IEPs receive their services in the general education setting. Some students receive their services outside of general education in a resource room or in a self-contained classroom.  The resource and self-contained classrooms both remove students from class with their non-disabled peers.

Location of Services

If a student’s school of enrollment is unable to implement their IEP, DCPS will assign the child a Location of Services (LOS) as close as possible to their attendance boundary. A LOS letter is sent to parents to identify the new location of service.   The LOS letter tells families which school their child should enroll in to receive special education services. A change in LOS does not change the IEP or placement.
