DCPS provides special education services in the setting that best meets each student's needs. Most students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) can receive support in a general education classroom, resource room, or a self-contained classroom.

Where Students Learn

Most students with IEPs receive their services in the general education classroom. Some students receive their services outside of general education in a resource room or in a self-contained classroom.

 

Location of Services

If a student's school cannot provide the services in their IEP, DCPS may assign the student to another school that can. DCPS will try to place the student at a school close to their current school. Families will receive a location of service (LOS) letter with information about the new school and how to enroll. This does not change the student's IEP.
